With Trump leading Biden in recent polls, Coppins suggests Romney may again consider alternative options to keep Trump from power. While Romney disagrees with Biden's policies, he sees Trump as a fundamental threat to democracy and wants to do whatever he can to block him in 2024. Coppins says Romney was convinced a third party bid would inadvertently help Trump, so he declined to run as an independent in 2020. But with another Trump-Biden showdown likely, Coppins believes Romney will have a very hard time sitting idly by in 2024. Despite policy differences with Democrats, Romney's distaste for Trump's character and conduct may motivate him to take action to prevent Trump's return.
